La Bohème
Giacomo Puccini
La Bohème tells the story of the forbidden love between Mimi and Rodolfo among the artists and ordinary people of Paris. Puccini is a master of the art of creating an intense melodic thread with well-rounded lyricism.

Adapted from Scènes de la vie de bohème by Henry Murger, which was serialised in the Parisian newspaper Le Corsaire between 1845 and 1849, it was performed shortly afterwards as a play at the Théâtre des Variétés. The version by Puccini created the frail figure of Mimi. The general public viewed it as a picture of a whole era, of Paris and of the young, carefree artistic students at the turn of the century. Debussy himself declared: “I don’t know anyone who has described Paris in this era as well as Puccini in La Bohème”. Looking beyond realism, Puccini is above all a master of the art of creating an intense and richly lyrical melodic thread. The Mimi-Rodolfo pairing features the young Selene Zanetti, who has already excelled in this role in Venice, Stuttgart and Naples, and Samoan tenor Pene Pati, who was recently a great hit at the Opéra de Paris in L’Elixir d’amour, and as Romeo at the Opéra-Comique. We are in good hands with the “boss” of all thing French, Eric Ruf, who will deliver an original vision of Paris in the 19th century, and young conductor Lorenzo Passerini who will conduct the Orchestre National de France.
