Quatuor Modigliani
The Modigliani Quartet in communion with Beethoven and Schubert.
Beethoven String Quartet No. 6 op. 18 No. 6
Schubert String Quartet op. posth. D. 810 "Der Tod und das Mädchen"
Why did the Modigliani Quartet decide to explore Schubert? “Communion with a secret soul, the discovery of inexpressible colours, admiration for masterly expression whose ideas never cease to change and inspire,” confided the French players following the release of their complete Shubert quartets in January 2022 (Mirare). These shrewd performers, who have demonstrated their close familiarity with Viennese romantic and classical music on countless occasions, will bring a wealth of different colours to Death and the Maiden. Variety is also the hallmark of Opus 18 No.6 by Beethoven, the last work from his first batch of string quartets, published in 1801, in his mid-period between youth and maturity.
