    Symphony No. 9 « The Great » D. 944

Sung in German, with French and English subtitles

Matthias Goerne is a giant in every sense of the word, both physically and vocally. He is unquestionably the finest German Lieder voice of his generation, notably for Schubert, a repertoire which he has been exploring tirelessly for over twenty years both onstage and on vinyl. Now at the height of his powers, he masters every nuance of his instrument, offering all the beauty and gems of a sovereign legato. A worthy successor to Schwarzkopf and Fischer-Dieskau, he excels at highlighting the slightest inflection, bringing every word, and even every syllable, to life. This will be a great musical moment from a performer at the peak of his craft.
