Wagner-Brassin « Entry of the Gods Into Valhalla » excerpt from Das Rheingold (transcription for piano)
Wagner-Lugansky Götterdämmerung (transcription for piano by Nikolaï Lugansky)
Nikolaï Lugansky brings us the ultimate Romantic evening, with the cosy intimacy of Mendelssohn’s Lieder ohne Worte. In addition to the famous Nocturne by Chopin, who is our companion for the season, we will hear two Ballades – the Third, which conjures up the beautiful summer of 1841 spent in the sunshine of Nohant, and the highly narrative Fourth which guided him a year later towards fresh meditations. Following in the footsteps of virtuosos of the past, the Russian pianist also treats us to a trip to Bayreuth with his own arrangements of several excerpts from Götterdämmerung, the last section of Wagner’s four-part cycle. They are sure to set Valhalla alight!
