Audiences discovered the pairing of Edgar Moreau and David Kadouch in a programme of French music recorded in 2018 on the Erato label. This time they are opening their recital with Beethoven’s opus 69. Composed between the Fifth and Sixth Symphonies, it marks the beginning of the modern era. The duo will then evoke Chopin’s affinity with the cello. Alongside Chopin’s early Introduction and Polonaise, they will tackle Sonata opus 65, over which the great composer toiled. As he put it in 1846: “I am satisfied and dissatisfied by turns. I toss it into the corner, then pick it up again.” If this sonata sits so well under the bow, it is doubtless because Chopin took the advice of his friend Auguste Franchomme, with whom he premiered the sonata in his last public concert.
