This concert in French, German, Italian and English is full of drama, tragedies and happy endings. The humour of Neapolitan comedy, and the betrayals, social tensions, romantic intrigue, desire and sentimentality of French opera inform the arias, duets and vocal trios in this performance. This diversity of expression so closely associated with characters’ psychology permeates the writing of works composed a century and a half apart. Yet they all share a quality for which the three early-career artists onstage have been unanimously acclaimed by the critics: a sense of panache.
