The rhythm of the Vivaldi’s concertos which punctuate this performance draw us into the flamboyant world of Italian tragedies of the baroque era with themes of plotting and satirical comedy (Agrippina), infighting among the descendants of Charlemagne (Carlo il Calvo), passions and betrayals (Giulio Cesare), and a magician’s spells (Alcina), to name but a few. The list of arias to be performed spans the full spectrum of human emotions. They are delivered with rich colours, and striking rhythms and contrasts by Thibaut Noally’s Les Accents, an ensemble specialising in the vocal and instrumental repertoire of the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries. The dazzling cast of young singers invites us to enjoy these lively works.
