Les Siècles
NN | direction
Les Siècles perform two of the most famous pre-romantic symphonies and premiere a new work.
Bloquert World Creation (winner of the 2nd Prix Pisar)
Schubert Symphony No. 8 D. 759 « Unfinished »
Beethoven Symphony No. 5 Op. 67 « Fate »
For the inaugural concert of the third season of Les Siècles’ residency, a pre-romantic François-Xavier Roth is coming to avenue Montaigne. There will be a foray into Schubertian territory with the legendary “Unfinished” symphony, which remains in draft form comprising just the first two movements. In the second half, there is a nod to a familiar piece for Les Siècles: Beethoven’s Symphony No.5, “of Fate”. We will enjoy the experience of rediscovering this work played on mellow gut-stringed and period brass instruments. The lion’s share of the programme will be classics, but the musicians will take a detour into contemporary music for which they have a special fondness with a new work commissioned from the young French composer Christian-Frédéric Bloquert, winner of the second Pisar Prize launched by Villa Albertine, the Juilliard School in New York, and the Théâtre des Champs-Elysées.
