To mark its fifth edition, the Rungis Piano-Piano Festival is venturing to the Théâtre to present an exceptional concert with two outstanding double concertos in the German romantic tradition. Felix Mendelssohn’s second double concerto – which was composed, like his first, at the age of thirteen by the young prodigy to be performed with his sister Fanny – is a stirring work of incredible virtuosity. Bruch’s double concerto Opus 88a, was composed 88 years after Mendelssohn’s work, but embraces German romanticism in a monumental piece with unforgettable themes. It will be performed here by the duo of Ludmila Berlinskaïa and Arthur Ancelle, the founder and the artistic director of the festival, who have established a reputation as one of the finest pairings of the twenty-first century. Mendelssohn will be performed by graduates of the Piano-Piano Academy, which trains and promotes young duet players, accompanied by the Orchestre National de Lille with Dmitri Liss.
