Igor Levit | piano

Major international concert halls are fighting to book the young German-Russian pianist Igor Levit, who now belongs to the international keyboard elite. All though he is very much a man of his times (he has a high profile on social media and participates actively in civic engagements), as an artist he prefers depth to haste. His heart lies in German repertoire – Bach and the Viennese classicism of Beethoven which have made his name. For this new recital, he has chosen a different approach: Schumann, Wagner with an arrangement of the Prelude to Tristan and Isolde by the late Zoltán Kocsis, a new piece by the American jazz pianist and composer Fred Hersch, for whom Levit has a deep admiration, and then the huge Sonata in B minor by Liszt to round off.
